Rickter is built on more than three decades of development, application and practitioner experience.  This established history provides continuity, credibility and a substantial foundation for future international contribution. 

Rickter Scale World Limited owns and stewards the Rickter Scale Method. It protects the method’s identity, intellectual property and continuing development while providing a clear foundation for authorised growth. 

Insight Reality EU Ltd is licensed by Rickter Scale World Limited to develop and deliver Rickter internationally. This provides organisations with a clear route to implementation, strategic partnerships, research collaboration and licensing discussions.

Method integrity is maintained through Rickter Academy. It authorises materials, Frames of Reference, defined practitioner standards, and responsible use of the Rickter identity. These arrangements protect consistency as Rickter grows internationally.

Rickter’s modernisation is being managed as a strategic programme of organisational, educational and technological development. Each stage builds upon the established legacy while preparing Rickter for contemporary and future environments. 

Digital intelligence forms part of Rickter’s long-term development strategy. Investment is focused on strengthening infrastructure, information governance, analytical capability and the responsible management of Rickter-generated data. 

Neuroinclusive development is a continuing organisational commitment. Rickter is integrating neuroinclusive principles across practitioner education, resources, digital development and international partnerships to strengthen accessibility, agency and equitable participation. 

Rickter develops relationships with organisations, researchers, public bodies, education partners, consortia and responsible investors. Each partnership is built around shared purpose, defined responsibilities and sustainable long-term value. 

The next generation represents Rickter’s future as an internationally connected organisation. Its direction brings together responsible stewardship, innovation, research, partnerships and carefully managed global expansion. 

Rickter provides specialist human-measurement capability across consortium design, programme delivery, evaluation and impact reporting. It connects participant experience with the evidence requirements shared by funders, researchers, delivery partners and public bodies. 

Rickter measures self-defined movement between Baseline, Desired State and New Now Review. It connects numerical position with personal meaning, commitment and reflection, creating evidence that explains what moved and why it mattered. 

Rickter provides a defined methodology component within consortium programmes and work packages. It establishes a shared approach to participant-centred measurement across partners, locations, professional disciplines and delivery environments. 

Rickter embeds human measurement within programme architecture from the design stage. It connects participant engagement, practitioner capability, evidence collection, review points, evaluation requirements and organisational learning within one coherent structure. 

Rickter generates structured Movement Evidence across participants, services and programme locations. The framework supports aggregation and comparison while retaining the contextual meaning required to understand and interpret change responsibly. 

Rickter aligns partners around a common human-measurement framework, shared evidence language and consistent review process. Local delivery retains its relevance while contributing to collective programme intelligence and coordinated decision-making. 

Rickter integrates participant-owned evidence into formative, process and impact evaluation. Baseline information, desired movement, commitments and subsequent review strengthen the connection between lived experience, implementation learning and programme-level findings. 

Rickter provides structured evidence for methodological research, feasibility studies, comparative analysis and responsible innovation. Consortium collaboration extends the published knowledge base and develops new applications of human movement measurement. 

Rickter provides an adaptable human-measurement framework for cross-border programmes. It creates consistency across countries and partners while allowing language, Frames of Reference and delivery arrangements to reflect local populations and contexts. 

For more than three decades, Rickter has advanced how human movement is explored, articulated and measured.

What began as a pioneering response to social exclusion has developed into the 

Rickter Scale Method: a contemporary, person-led methodology connecting structured human conversation, self-defined measurement and credible Movement Evidence.

Throughout that development, one principle has remained constant: the individual establishes their position, explains what it means and retains ownership of what they would like to be different.

The Rickter Scale originated in 1993 through the work of Keith Stead and Rick Hutchinson. It was developed in response to the challenges experienced by young people involved in offending, their families and others facing social exclusion and barriers to education, training and employment.

The early method created a structured and accessible way for individuals to consider their circumstances, articulate what mattered and identify personally meaningful direction. 

It recognised changes in confidence, awareness, responsibility, motivation and future direction that conventional performance measures frequently overlooked.

Initially operated through The Choiceworks Partnership, Rickter brought together structured dialogue, self-defined scaling, motivational practice and evaluation.

Its first commercial application enabled services to recognise and evidence personal outcomes that were frequently described at the time as “softer outcomes”. Rickter demonstrated that these experiences could be explored and measured without removing their personal meaning.

From 2001 to 2017, The Rickter Company expanded the method internationally. Demand grew across approximately 6,000 organisations in 23 countries, with more than 22,000 practitioners trained. 

In 2017, stewardship of Rickter transferred to Keith Stead Associates. The method continued to be delivered and developed during a period of considerable economic, technological and social change.

In 2021, Keith Stead began collaborating with award-winning educationalist and long-standing Rickter practitioner Martin Dennis Timoney to develop Rickter Scale 2.0. The collaboration reviewed how the language, training and application of the method could respond to changing community needs and the widespread consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2022, Peter Benkendorf, founder of The Collaboratory in Dayton, Ohio, contributed his experience in community collaboration, vision-led development and collective approaches to change. This complemented Rickter’s established experience in behavioural change, metacognition, practitioner development and international partnership working.

In 2023, Martin Dennis Timoney completed the acquisition of The Rickter Scale and established Rickter Scale World Limited as the company responsible for its next generation.

The acquisition brought Rickter into new ownership and created the opportunity to combine its established heritage with a more ambitious programme of modernisation, investment and international development.

Building on his first-hand experience of the method and his earlier collaboration with Keith Stead, Martin set out to protect Rickter’s founding principles while advancing its language, practitioner development, technology and application.

This was not simply a change of company name. It marked the beginning of a new generation of Rickter—built on more than three decades of practice and designed for the future of human movement measurement.

In 2025, to support international expansion, Rickter Scale World granted Insight Reality EU Limited a worldwide licence for the Rickter Scale Method. 

The licence provides a structure through which international partnerships, Associate relationships, practitioner training, organisational implementation and technology-enabled delivery can be developed across different countries and sectors.

Insight Reality EU Limited brings experience in international business development, consortium management, innovation and impact intelligence. Its role enables Rickter to contribute to larger organisational, community and cross-border initiatives while supporting responsible international growth.

Rickter Scale World continues to protect the method’s strategic direction and integrity,  while Insight Reality EU Limited provides the licensed platform for extending its reach around the world. 

Rickter is not a method preserved unchanged since 1993. It continues to evolve alongside developing understanding of neurodiversity, trauma, communication, regulation, accessibility and individual agency.

Neuroinclusive principles are embedded across contemporary practitioner training, language, communication, pacing and participation. Rather than expecting every individual to engage in the same way, Rickter enables practice to respond to different communication and processing preferences while protecting choice, dignity and ownership.

Trauma-informed and person-led principles shape how practitioners establish safety, approach disclosure and respond to what the individual chooses to explore. Practitioners facilitate the process without assigning positions, imposing meaning or determining what movement should look like.

The contemporary method brings together structured dialogue, metacognitive and anchoring techniques, strengths-based practice, personally defined destinations and self-defined measurement. It is structured enough to produce consistent Movement Evidence while remaining responsive to different individuals, environments and circumstances.

Today, Rickter brings together the Life Board, contemporary practitioner development and the Rickter Impact Management System.

Practitioners can record and revisit what mattered, the positions established, the meaning articulated, commitments made and evidence identified during review. 

Movement Evidence can then be brought together across organisational activity through de-identified reporting.

Customised Centre Hubs enable organisations to manage practitioners, onboard individuals, oversee programmes, control access and produce reports across their Rickter activity. This connects person-led practice with clearer organisational oversight and intelligence.

Rickter continues to develop in response to emerging practice, changing organisational requirements and a deeper understanding of how people communicate, process experience and participate in change.

Its next generation is global, digital, neuroinclusive and evidence-led—but remains fundamentally human.

Its purpose remains clear: to advance how human movement is measured while ensuring that individual meaning, context and ownership remain central.

Rickter’s direction to 2030 is centred on building the digital platform required for the future of human movement measurement. 

Neuroinclusive, trauma-informed and person-led principles already shape the contemporary method; the next strategic priority is creating the infrastructure that can carry this practice further.

At the centre of this ambition is NestPlan, the development programme through which Rickter Scale World will design and build a new generation of the Rickter platform. It will connect the Life Board, practitioner delivery, customised Centre Hubs, Movement Evidence, organisational reporting and human movement intelligence within one secure and scalable environment.

The new platform will be designed for international delivery, accessible participation, configurable Frames of Reference and intelligence across programmes, services and partnerships. 

Responsible data intelligence and artificial intelligence will be introduced only where they strengthen accessibility, pattern recognition, learning and decision-making while maintaining privacy, transparency and human oversight - creating the foundation for international partnerships, multilingual development, research, innovation and cross-border implementation.
